Misconception #1…Vehicle Pricing

I've been in the automotive industry for the past 10 years. I started with the Chevrolet family and I've been with We Drive since the beginning, putting the We Drive team together. One of the biggest misconceptions in the car-buying industry is how expensive vehicles really are. The average price for a new car is roughly $35,000. For most of us that is way too expensive. New car pricing is supposed to go up roughly $400. New tariffs on steel and aluminum could add even more to manufacturing costs.

Advertised pricing is a huge misconception. Many vehicles are advertised with all the rebates and incentives that vehicles can possibly qualify for. Some people think they can get a brand new 2018 Chevy Cruze for $10,000. They're convinced they're getting that price however, what the dealership isn't telling them is in order to get the brand-new 2018 Chevy Cruze for that price, you have to qualify for all ten rebates and incentives. If not, all of the sudden the 2018 Chevy Cruze you saw for $10,000 is now back up to the selling price at $20,000. I tell member's if I can get a brand-new 2018 Chevy Cruze for $10,000, I'd buy ten of them myself! That's how dealerships work. Their main goal is to get you in the showroom. Once you're in they feel like they have you.
